Yes! While a transgender speech therapist often works in a medical or clinical setting, aiming to treat pathological vocal disorders and bring it back to functional use; A gender-affirming voice coach focuses on the aesthetics of the voice, self-expression, identity, and performance mechanics. This is done in a 1:1 online environment.

Our lessons will focus on four main components:Resonance: Modifying the size, shape, and length of the vocal tract.   Pitch: Adjusting the rate at which the vocal folds vibrate.   Vocal Weight: Changing the thickness of the vocal folds.   Prosody / Articulation: Fine-tuning intonation patterns with pitch, speech rhythm, and the crispness of consonants.  Ultimately these parts, when combined to different extents, allow us to feminize, masculinize or androgynize the voice.

I'm quite proud of my skills as a voice coach and I'm happy to report that clients are typically with me for a total of 6-8 sessions. These sessions are spaced ideally 2-3 weeks apart so that enough muscle development and muscle memeory has occurred that we can build off the growth and move to the next lesson.

Yes, I do! I provide 1:1 and group trans voice lessons for Canadians through my partnership with Foria Clinic. Not in Canada? No problem! I work with clients globally through my personal website.

In addition to my degree in Education, I have specialized training through The Voice Study Centre, Polyvagal Institute, Estill Voice Training, and Northern Speech Services. Additionally, I work in partnership with Foria Clinic to provide connected, high-quality gender-affirming voice care for our shared community.

You will be very happy to hear that if you're regularly practicing, you will likely be able to discern noticeable changes to your vocal feminization abilities starting after 1-2 weeks (with regular practice!).

Yes! Just like a cis voice, the key is it sounding natural. For that reason we focus on so much more than just the voice. We target chronic and/ or acute muscle tension, breath support issues, anxiety and many other factors that are likely to inhibit you from reaching your ftm/ mtf voice goals.

Vocal success goes beyond the voice which is why I assess student growth on a multitude of factors so when individuals feel like they've hit a road block, through my assessments I can highlight where in fact growth is happening and provide you with clear feedback on what you can do to achieve the next step.

Yes there are, Vocal hygienePoor vocal hygiene causes irritation, inflammation and dehydration of the vocal tissues. This makes the vocal tissue stiff and unresponsive, making it difficult for a student to achieve clean pitch control, balanced resonance, or ultimately their goals.  Muscle tension Muscle tension acts like a set of brakes on the voice. When throat, jaw, or neck muscles lock up, they squeeze the vocal folds and limit the movements of the larynx. This makes reaching higher pitches or shifting the voice feel forced, tiring, and strained. Stress and daily habits are common causes of this. Executive function challengesPure and simple, if individuals are unwilling or unable to practice in between sessions, theres zero chance they will be able achieve any change in the voiceTracheal shaves Thinning the thyroid cartilage too aggressively can weaken both the muscles that elevate the larynx and the front anchor point of the vocal folds, making higher pitches much harder to reach while causing voice cracking, warbling, or pitch lossAnxietyVoice training relies on steady breathing and relaxed vocal muscles, but anxiety triggers a "fight-or-flight" response that tightens the throat, shortens breath, and increases muscle tension. The cognitive strain of coordinating pitch, breath, and resonance becomes overwhelming with brain fog, meaning it takes more time and repetition to build automatic habits.
